The Story Behind The Song
The Watering Hole is the oldest bar in The County—a place where friends gather, stories are shared, and conversations flow as easy as the drinks.
The song is told through Jimmy Dunn, a County boy who hasn’t been back in a long time. Life pulled him away—marriage, kids, responsibility—but on this night, with his wife Becky gone for the weekend and things at home hanging by a thread, he finds himself back where it all started… just looking to breathe again.
The Watering Hole isn’t just a bar—it’s the heartbeat of The County. Sandy beach out back, sunsets stretching across the water, fires burning into the night, and music carrying through the warm air every Friday and Saturday.
Inside, it doesn’t take long before familiar faces turn into old friends again. The kind of place where no one asks too many questions—you just pull up a stool, and somehow, that’s enough.
And around here, you never quite know who’s going to take the stage:
Could be your neighbours, could be strangers…
Could be a legend killing time.
That line reaches back to a County story—when Doc’s old friend, bluesman Silas “Graveyard” Boone, missed his flight and stayed one more night… long enough to step on stage and remind everyone what real music feels like.

The Watering Hole Lyrics

Verse 1
I got that County feeling,
It’s kinda hard not to grin
First cold beer at the Watering Hole,
It’s Friday night, I hear the band kick in
Verse 2
The County crowd is taking their place
With a warm smile and a friendly embrace
Doc is at his place near the bar
Hank McCoy is serving whiskeys in the Jar
Chorus
Let down your hair, roll up your sleeves
This place is good for the soul
Ease up a little and make new friends
Forget it all, this is the Watering Hole
Verse 3
Sand in your shoes, spray in your face
Waves rolling in at a steady pace
Martha’s painting sunsets in the sky
It feels like home, but you don’t know why
Bridge
Doc leans over, says “son take your time,
Life’s just a song, don’t rush every line”
Hank just smiles, wipes down the bar
Jack raises his hand ,3 whiskys in the jar
Verse 4
Jimmy’s chatting with a girl he just met
Not going that well but not worried yet
Whiskey Jack’s telling stories out back
’Bout tractors, racing, and life on the track
Chorus
Let down your hair, roll up your sleeves
This place is good for the soul
Ease up a little and make new friends
Forget it all, this is the Watering Hole
Verse 5
Strangers coming in with those wary eyes
Whiskey Jack comes out with a forceful cry
Come on over and make a few friends
Let’s raise our glasses high and hope this never ends
Chorus
Let down your hair, roll up your sleeves
This place is good for the soul
Ease up a little and make new friends
Forget it all, this is the Watering Hole
Verse 6
You might come here lost, down and alone
Soak up the music, its not time to go home
Yeah, nobody’s leaving, it’s going to go late
Kick off your shoes and you might find a date
Chorus
Let down your hair, roll up your sleeves
This place is good for the soul
Ease up a little and make new friends
Forget it all, this is the Watering Hole
